Known for his reassuring presence during emergencies, Erik spent many years as the calming voice on the other end of the line for those in crisis, his obituary says. His legacy includes years of volunteer work with the Palisades Park and Fairview Ambulance Corps.

Erik worked as a public servant for more than 25 years, including 19 with the Bergen County Communications Office. The office remembered Erik as the "ultimate professional," as he was deeply committed to supporting first responders in police, fire, and emergency medical services.

A resident of Palisades Park, Erik was not only a respected public safety telecommunicator but also an artist at heart, known for designing intricate costumes for comic-con events, his obituary continues.

Friends and family remembered Erik as a man of many talents, intelligence, and humor, with a compassionate and constant presence. Maria Marcoux Pomerantz described him as a confidante with a sharp wit and endless talents, recalling his unique sayings and hoping he’s "having drinks with Dean & Jeff."

Walter Condi thanked Erik for his support and kindness, calling him a true gentleman whose big heart left a lasting impact.

Close friend James Hannon shared a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on their unlikely but deep friendship, built on shared adventures and respectful debates. Their differences — Erik’s love for the paranormal and Hannon’s skepticism — gave them plenty to discuss, creating a bond that felt unbreakable.

"And he's rolling his eyes at me for saying this, but you never know when it will be the last time you see somebody," Hannon said. "Keep that in mind when you see people that matter to you."

He is survived by his father, Eric Midgley, his siblings, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Midgley was predeceased by his mother, Lillian Midgley, and nieces Klara and Faith.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Hunt-Stellato Funeral Home in Fort Lee, on Friday, Nov. 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 10 a.m., followed by committal prayers at George Washington Memorial Park.
